This week, we had the honor of hosting a history tour of the Bradford Woods property for the Morgan County Leadership Academy. This group spends an entire day of each year touring some of the sites of Morgan County. They began their day learning the history of Mooresville, checked out the Link Observatory, and then bussed on over to Bradford Woods to learn a little about the history of the Bradfords and their legacy.

MCLA had the opportunity to tour the historical Bradford Homestead and travel back in time to discover the way the Bradford family lived back in the 1870s, learn about the barn built in the 1900s and take a peek at the majestic horses, see the home of the first car in Morgan County which belonged to John Bradford , get all the gritty (and spooky) details about the grand Manor House, and check out Tipple Field to unearth the area where the Bradford Mining Company sorted and hauled sand during their prosperous sand mining period.

Did you know that John Bradford handed the deed to the Bradford Property to Herman B Wells & Indiana University in 1938? If you would like to take a step back in time with us here at Bradford Woods, you can attend our Annual Fall Fundraiser on October 20, 2018. The fundraiser is 1930s themed and includes a formal dinner, guest speaker, and a silent auction. Be on the lookout for more information coming soon!

If you’d like to take a history hike or spend a night in the marvelous Manor House here with us, you can contact Chad Simmons, Assistant Director-Retreats, at retreats@indiana.edu.
