Bradford Woods is Indiana University’s outdoor center. On our 2500 acre campus we have been providing educational, recreational and professional service opportunities to youth and adults for over 50 years. For our instructors we seek dynamic and talented individuals with a passion for outdoor and experiential education. This multi-faceted position entails teaching and facilitating a variety of programs with various populations through our 4 centers of learning: Environmental Education, Adventure Education, Therapeutic Recreation, and Retreats.

Program Positions

JOB TITLE: PROFESSIONAL OUTDOOR INSTRUCTOR

Description of Position:
Teach environmental education modules based on established curriculum, lead recreational activities, and conduct evening activities during assigned Environmental Education program. Facilitate group icebreakers, initiatives, and ropes/challenge course events (high and low), and conduct evening activities during assigned Adventure Education Center programs. Support and lead recreational programs for youth and adults with disabilities during assigned Therapeutic Recreation programs. Support welcoming and hosting retreats groups and those visiting Bradford Woods as part of a conference or workshop on an ‘as needed’ basis. Complete reports, schedules, lesson or program plans, and other paperwork as assigned. Assist with inspection of cabins and program areas. Conduct ongoing equipment checks to insure optimal safety of staff and participants. Follow all policies and procedures regarding the use of elements, equipment, property and facilities as developed by Bradford Woods.

Position Details:
Outdoor Instructors are required to attend the training program. Housing is provided for the duration of employment. Meals are provided only during program, i.e. while working with a program to which one has been assigned. Most meals will be provided during the training program, but some meals will still be the responsibility of the employee. Since Bradford Woods operates on a seven day per week schedule, days working may vary. All Outdoor Instructors are covered by the Indiana University worker’s compensation policy.
