Eagle FootLike the eyes of an Bald Eagle, their feet are very important tools used in hunting. All eagles locate their prey with their keen eyesight, then catch and kill it with their feet. The feet of an eagle are adapted to catch the kind of food they like to eat most. For bald eagles that would be fish. The bald eagle's feet have razor sharp claws called talons. On an adult eagle these talons can be up to an inch long and are curved almost like a fishhook. They also have rough bumps on their toes to help them hold on to slippery fish.

Other types of birds have different types of feet.   Not every bird needs feet that are large and have sharp talons.  Water birds, like ducks and geese, have webbed feet to help them swim.   A hummingbird's feet are very small and not too powerful since it spends very little time perching.   Look at the pictures below and see if you can find the eagle's foot.  What purpose do you think each bird's foot has been adapted for?
